Fashion Industry - Why it's killing our planet

I think you'll all agree with me when I say we are always looking for different ways that we can help our planet. This is the main reason why I co-created RAPID, as well as my love for the gym.

Did you know that the fashion industry is in the top 7 industries that most negatively impact the environment. The fashion industry is solely responsible for 2.1 billion GHG's annually, right behind the food industry.

One of the most popular materials most fast fashion brands use is Polyester. Polyester is created using fossil fuels and can shed microplastics into the water system when washed. The reduced size of microplastic makes it easier for intake by aquatic organisms resulting in amassing of noxious waters, thereby disturbing their physiological functions. Fast fashion always uses cheap materials and toxic dyes to create its clothes, making it one of the largest polluters if clean water.

Fast fashion's turnover in clothes is substantial. 85% of textiles and materials get thrown away each year due to seasonal fashion trends. Once the season is over fast fashion brands are selling the next new trend. We pride ourselves on being a slow fashion brand.

It is estimated that the fashion industry generates around 10% of the global CO2 emissions. It also uses around 93 billion cubic metres a year in energy and water. So without drastic action we are supporting in killing our planet.
